Downtown KL offers plenty of luxury hotels and
cheap dives

Accommodation
in KL is not hard to find and the good news is that it has one the
lowest hotel rates in South-East Asia. This means that you can treat
yourself to 5-star hotels for an average expenditure of about US $70.
There are many 5-star establishments in KL that cater to both the
business and leisure-seeking traveler. If great location is your
priority, try The Marriott, The Regent, Mandarin Oriental and Park
Royal. All these are located in the heart of the shopping district. The
Shangri-la, The Equatorial, The Istana, The Sheraton Imperial and The
Renaissance are great as well but you need to walk a little
bit. For those with a shoe string budget, you can try cheaper
outfits like The Federal Hotel.
You
can get really really cheap accommodation in KL (ie under US $20) if
you're not fussy. There are plenty of old shop lots that have been
converted into guesthouses throughout KL. It is impossible to name them
and all you need to do is to be on the lookout for signboards. Being a
native of KL, I obviously have not tried living in these places before.
I know friends who have endured many nights in them. My view is that
it's best to choose a guest house that is in a busy area.
